SREE AYYAPPA COIR INDUSTRIES
Coconut cultivation is the major agriculture activity in the Island and most of cultivable land is occupying this cultivation. The annual production of coconut is also higher than the other
part of the country. Though the nuts are further processing for the manufacture of other value added products like CocoPith ,oil, coconut powder, coconut chips etc., the husk separated from
the nut is considered as a waste material even now in the Islands. With a view to utilize this untapped potential of natural resources by availing the advice and help from the Coir Board,
Govt. of India Shri.R.Harihara Suthan has established a husk processing industry in the Island named Shree Ayyappa coir Industry. Coir products, as natural materials it is having a
good demand in the market within the country as well as in abroad. Since 2017 his factory is working and manufacturing and marketing successfully the product like Coir fibre, coir
yarn and curled coir rope. He is providing employment to nearly 30 persons as a regular basis and they are earning a wages ranging from Rs.6000 to Rs.12000 per month.
